Allowing your children to dig into arts and crafts allows them to learn and develop in essential ways while they are making a beautiful mess.

If your children go to daycare during the weekdays, you may be struggling to entertain them when the weekend rolls around. Instead of letting them sit in front of the TV all weekend, why not plan some fun arts and crafts activities? Having your children to dig into arts and crafts allows them to learn and develop in essential ways while they are making a beautiful mess.

Make creative activities worthwhile in your home because children gain many important benefits from working with arts and crafts projects.

Imagination and self-expression

According to the Americans for the Arts website, when children participate in arts and crafts, their creativity and imagination receives strong stimulation. When you give a child a paintbrush, their hand suddenly has the ability to create vivid paintings and they are easily able to express themselves with the color and brushstrokes they decide to do. Allow your child to freely paint or draw and try not to overwhelm them with directions. Too much direction can restrict their creative process.

Increased motor skills

While making art, many motions are involved. Holding a paintbrush or scribbling with a crayon are essential to the growth of motor skills in your children. If you allow your children to explore with crayons and colored pencils, they will be able to draw a circle, square, use scissors and write in no time.

Language development

When young children create art, they are able to talk about what they just made and they are able to learn words for different colors and shapes. By elementary school, children can use descriptive words to discuss their own creations or talk about what they see in their work.

Here at Watch Me Grow daycare center, we understand the importance of arts and crafts and include a daily art activity as part of each classrooms curriculum. Give us a call today at 716-656-8050 or stop in for a visit, we would be happy to give you a tour and answer all of your questions.
