Child Obesity Remains a Year-round Problem

ActiveAs the dog days of summer wind down, you may assume that children have been spending their days outside and getting a fair share of exercise while soaking up the sun’s rays.

However, the opposite has actually been true on a national level, as pointed out by this CBS News article. Ashley Welch writes, “With the warm weather and extra free time away from the classroom, you might assume that kids spend a lot more time running around outdoors over summer vacation. But that assumption would be wrong.”

Gone are the days of children enjoying the fruits of nice weather. There’s just too much distraction going on, including more television, more video games, a litany of websites to view and more fatty foods. Regardless of how old your child may be, he or she runs the risk of battling obesity. These bad habits are an obvious cause of concern, and instilling the importance of exercise to children is a continuous battle.

At Watch Me Grow Daycare Center, located in Cheektowaga, NY, we know what it takes to build good habits with your kids. We understand that parents nowadays are beset by so much stress, including simply finding time to enjoy outdoor activities with their family. Our programs are designed to make sure your child is happy and is provided with ample time to exercise and socialize with their peers. Moreover, we provide snacks that help fuel their bodies and minds.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying “junk food” and vegging out every now and again, but the trouble starts when it becomes habitual. We work diligently to get your child or children started on a positive path and in a healthy routine.
