Since October was Fire Prevention month, we thought we would give you some fire prevention and safety tips to go over with your children.  It’s crucial to be prepared for a fire, since they can start quickly and unexpectedly. Fire Prevention and Safety Tips For Your Family

Take the time and review fire safety with your children so they are prepared in case a fire starts at home. Here are few things to go over with your children:

Make a family fire safety plan

Every family should have and practice an escape plan in case of a fire. Go over important questions with your children, such as “Where do you go if there is a fire in the house?” Or “What do you do if a fire catches in your room?” This will help your children be prepared and know how to react in the event of an emergency situation.

Go over emergency phone numbers

If your children get separated or are home alone, who should they call? Review dialing 911 and what 911 means, as well as emergency contacts they can turn to. Post emergency phone numbers on the refrigerator or another place where your children can see them.

Stop drop and roll

This is an easy method for your children to remember if their shirt catches on fire. They should stop, drop to the floor and roll around until the fire is put out. Encourage your children not to panic and instead follow these three steps.

As part of fire prevention month, Bellevue Fire Department visited our center to present about fire safety.  Our children learned about fire safety and all of the equipment our local fire fighters use to keep us safe.
